DKIT becoming a University College of Queens University Belfast will be a game changer for the entire region according to Dundalk CEO John McGahon as news emerged during the week that DKIT were set to partner with their cross-border colleagues Queens University Belfast.
This is a hugely significant announcement, not just for Dundalk and County Louth, but for the the entire M1 Corridor between Drogheda and Newry and the wider DBEC corridor from Dublin to Belfast
It was a long road for DKIT when they originally missed out on the opportunity to join a TU when the legislation was progressing through the Oireachtas in recent years, but to join a University like Queens as an equal partner, really highlights the significance that other universities place on the value of DKIT and the incredible work that it is doing.
Students enrolling in DKIT from September 2026 will graduate with a Queen’s degree or postgraduate qualification. They will receive the same standard of education and award as those studying in Belfast. The scope for research and collaboration is also highly significant in the areas of MedTec, health and life sciences, energy and sustainability.
Everyone in Dundalk Chamber is delighted with the outcome for DKIT, an all-island university is exactly the type of collaboration that is needed with the M1 Corridor and will only serve to drive our region to even further economic and social success.
