Dundalk Chamber of Commerce Holds 132nd Annual General Meeting: Focus on Growth, Inclusion, and the Future
The Dundalk Chamber of Commerce hosted its 132nd Annual General Meeting on Thursday 22nd May, marking a year of continued economic progress and renewed ambitions for the year ahead.
Outgoing President Pat McCormick reflected on a highly successful year in his annual review, highlighting strong economic momentum in Dundalk. He noted significant growth in our local area businesses and member organisations, with increased business activity across the region.
He noted that the Chamber has actively supported this growth through Cross-Border initiatives, (including M1) Skillnet training programmes, and regular briefings for industry and local representatives. We also lobbied on a wide range of issues relevant to our region, including transport, taxation, infrastructure and tourism to name a few.
Expressing his gratitude for the support he received during his presidency, Pat McCormick extended special thanks to incoming President Hanna McDonnell.
In her address, Hanna outlined her goals for the year ahead. She emphasised her commitment to working closely with the new CEO, whose recruitment process is currently underway, redefining the Chamber’s long-term strategy, and further enhancing corporate governance. Among her priorities are the introduction of new events, strengthening the Chamber’s digital presence, and increasing membership. She also expressed a strong desire to see greater female participation within the Chamber, noting the leadership of female Presidents in Drogheda, Newry, Warrenpoint, and Lisburn.
Incoming Vice President Joanne Lavelle echoed this commitment to inclusivity and growth.
Treasurer Thomas McDonagh provided an upbeat financial report, announcing a surplus of €60,000—marking a positive turnaround after several years of losses. This profit will be reinvested in key initiatives, including the popular “Shop Local” campaign, which continues to receive strong community support. This year is the 10th anniversary of this initiative and in total, we have been able to keep in excess of €2,000,000 in the local community each year.
Thomas also noted the ongoing success of Skillnets, which has been instrumental in upskilling both companies and individuals in preparation for the future. He thanked Aidan Callan for his leadership in this area.
Board members Barbara Rajska (Secretary), Francis Murphy, and Paddy Malone (PRO) will continue in their roles, providing continuity and valuable expertise as the Chamber enters a new chapter.
Hanna presented Brenda McGeeney and Kim Hearty with a bouquet in recognition of 25 years’ service.
