Maintenance and improvement work is progressing well on Hill Street Bridge (R132), Dundalk, with the project scheduled for completion before the return of local schools at the end of August.

Significant work has already taken place on the bridge, including the installation of new traffic lights, new kerbing and footpath upgrades, an accessible pedestrian crossing with drop kerbs and tactile paving, and traffic calming measures. Full resurfacing is scheduled to take place later this week.

To ensure the safety of workers and the public, and to facilitate the timely completion of the project, the remaining works will continue to be carried out in stages, with sections of the R132 closed on a phased basis throughout the project.

  • Stage 1: Due to the volume of work to be carried out on the bridge, Stage 1 is expected to conclude on the evening of Monday, 10 August. Hill Street Bridge is closed to the public, with diversions in place on the R132 (Dublin Road) and at the junction with Stapleton Place.
  • Stage 2: Works are scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, 11 August and run until Wednesday, 19 August. During this period, the R172 (Avenue Road) will be closed from the junction with Tom Bellew Avenue to the traffic lights on Hill Street Bridge.
  • Stage 3: Works are expected to commence on Thursday, 20 August, following the completion of Stage 2. This stage will involve the closure of the R132 (Dublin Road) from the former Crossan’s Garage site to the traffic lights on Hill Street Bridge. The stage is scheduled for completion by Friday, 28 August.

Advance signage and public notifications are in place to minimise disruption, and arrangements have been made to ensure access for emergency services, residents and businesses within the works area.

Members of the public are also advised that roadworks are due to take place on Anne Street, Dundalk, from Monday, 10 August, to Monday, 17 August, with access restricted to local residents and businesses during this period.
