Construction of the new athletics track in Dundalk is entering its final stages, with the facility on schedule for completion in mid-August.
The state-of-the-art development represents a significant investment in sporting infrastructure for County Louth and will provide athletes, schools, clubs and the wider community with a modern athletics hub built to the highest international standards.
The project features an eight-lane, 400-metre synthetic running track, together with a central field area and dedicated facilities for long jump, triple jump, shot put, high jump, pole vault and javelin.
A major milestone has now been reached with the installation of the synthetic track surface and completion of the associated civil engineering works. Track markings were completed this week and have been installed in full compliance with World Athletics standards, ensuring the venue is suitable for both competition and training purposes.
In parallel, works associated with the floodlighting system are also advancing. Construction of the floodlight structures has commenced, and the floodlighting units have been ordered. Installation of the lighting system is scheduled for September and will further enhance the facility by extending its usability throughout the year.
