The 2026 Dundalk Municipal District Civic Awards took place on Thursday, 26th March in County Hall, Dundalk. The annual awards honour inspirational individuals and groups who have made exceptional contributions to the local community through remarkable achievements, dedicated voluntary service, or distinguished representation at national or international level.

Following a thorough nomination and review process by the 13 elected members of Dundalk Municipal District, nine recipients were selected to receive Municipal Awards.

The event opened with an introduction from, Joanna Kelly, Director of Servies with Louth County Council, who invited Firefighters Glenn Shields, Stephen Grey and Dita Durse of Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service to parade the National Flag, alongside the flags of County Louth and Dundalk Municipal District. They were accompanied by Firefighter Niall Clarke on the bagpipes. This was followed by a welcome address from Cllr Robert Nash, Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District, before the presentation of awards.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Cllr Nash said:

“These Civic Awards recognise the individuals and groups whose dedication strengthens the very heart of our communities in Dundalk and North Louth. So many people quietly give their time, energy, and talents to support others, preserve local traditions, and foster community spirit. Their work is often unseen, but its impact is lasting and deeply felt.

Tonight’s recipients remind us of the extraordinary difference ordinary people can make. Their commitment enriches our towns and villages, and we are truly grateful for all they do.”

Commenting on the importance of the annual awards, Joanna Kelly, said:

“Civic Awards shine a light on the individuals and organisations whose efforts reflect the very best of community spirit. They are about more than recognition; they celebrate the people who make a real and lasting difference in the lives of others and who contribute so positively to the wellbeing of our communities.

Louth County Council is proud to acknowledge those who give so generously of their time and energy, and we remain committed to fostering an environment where community leadership and volunteerism can continue to flourish.”
