Louth County Council is proud to announce that two of its nominated projects, the Boyne Valley Camino and Dromiskin Village, represented by Dromiskin Tidy Towns, were awarded runners-up in their respective categories at the prestigious IPB Pride of Place Awards.
The Boyne Valley Camino was recognised in the Community Tourism Initiative category, while Dromiskin Village was recognised in the Population 1,000–2,000 category. The awards ceremony, often referred to as the Oscars of the Community Sector, took place on Friday evening, 7th November, at the Limerick Strand Hotel and was hosted by comedian Dermot Whelan.
Both projects have made significant contributions to their communities, showcasing innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to enhancing local life and tourism.
Now in its 24th year, the IPB Pride of Place Awards celebrate the tireless efforts of community groups across the island of Ireland. Sponsored by IPB Insurance and coordinated by Co-operation Ireland, the competition recognises the invaluable work of volunteers who strive to make their communities better places to live, work, and visit. This year, 86 groups were nominated by 34 local authorities.
Cllr. Sean Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, praised the achievements of both groups, stating:
“Louth has a proud tradition of community spirit and volunteerism, and it is inspiring to see that reflected in the outstanding work of both groups. Their dedication, creativity, and commitment to making a positive difference have had a real impact on the lives of others. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each group for their achievements and for representing County Louth with such pride. Their success is a true reflection of the resilience, generosity, and unity that define our community.”
David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, also extended his congratulations, highlighting the county’s strong performance in the competition:
“The Boyne Valley Camino and Dromiskin Tidy Towns have demonstrated what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared vision and commitment to making their areas better for everyone. Their recognition at a national level is well deserved and reflects the passion, creativity, and hard work of all involved. These projects not only enhance the quality of life for local residents but contribute to the cultural and tourism offering of our county. Pride of Place is a wonderful competition which showcases all that is best and innovative in communities throughout the island of Ireland and one we will continue to support.”
