Dundalk Chamber launches major meet the buyer event

After a very successful event earlier in the Summer, plans are well underway to recruit a further 180 small businesses to the next Meet the Buyer event which will take place in Monaghan on 27th November 2013. Organised by the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce and assisted by COMET Councils in Northern Ireland, the Meet the Buyer events form part of the Gateways to Growth initiative.

Project Managers Melanie Fitzpatrick, Toni Forrester and Martina Crawford

Gateways to Growth is a cross border initiative encouraging trade between companies from Northern Ireland and the border regions of the Republic of Ireland through skills development workshops and Meet the Buyer events. The project has been awarded funding from the European ’s INTERREG IVA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Businesses attending the Monaghan event will get an opportunity to make a pitch to a range of private sector buyers on the day. Buyers and sellers will be matched before the event and everyone will get the opportunity to meet selected buyers from businesses across Northern Ireland and the border counties. They also get the opportunity to network with the other businesses attending so creating the possibility of potential new customers and business partnerships. The feedback from the first event in June was excellent with businesses getting real opportunities to tender for work.

Melanie Fitzpatrick, Project Manager, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce said:
“We have been working on recruiting buyers for the last two months and we are pleased with the range and quality of companies we have lined up. There are some major private sector businesses that will be represented on the day all with business opportunities and all seeking to source new suppliers.

The local businesses attending are being offered a unique opportunity to pitch to large businesses that were very keen to widen their supplier base. This programme is trying to encourage cross border trade so the opportunity to network with other SMEs from across Northern Ireland is huge and will allow the businesses to develop valuable business relationships well in to the future. ”

Buyers who will attend can be found in the news section on our website www.gatewaystogrowth.ie, but a sample includes: Bombardier, Fujitsu, Seagate, Greiner Packaging, Lagan Construction Group, Graham Asset Management,  4 Beauty Group, Tayto Group,  Glanbia, IrishShopper.ie,  Abbott Ireland, Anord Control Systems, FPM Accountants, ABB, TSM Control Systems, Grant Engineering, Matthews.ie, Marshes Shopping Centre, Prometric, Coca Cola Ireland, Eastern Electric, and McArdle Skeath.

Speaking after the first event Susan McFadden from Randox Laboratories said,
“I was very pleased to have attended ‘Gateways to Growth’ on behalf of Randox. We have a growing manufacturing and R&D operation at our state of the art facility in Dungloe, meaning that cross border links are invaluable to our business. Taking part in the initiative provides an excellent opportunity to engage with a wide variety of suppliers and stakeholders both North and South.”
