Community Safety Strategy


One of Louth County Council’s corporate aims is to create a place where quality of life and well-being are experienced by everyone who lives, works and visits in the county.  A co-ordinated, partnership-based approach to policing will help achieve this objective.

It is hoped to connect all the points of existing activity/projects associated with the Peace III projects, RAPID, local authority activities and An Garda Síochána, and to agree  broad goals and  objectives that are action-based and problem-solving so that a better quality of life for local communities, and for you within your business and working environment, can be achieved.  Experience all over the world has shown that taking an approach like this helps people to come together to build trust, share values and engage in meaningful dialogue to arrive at longer-term solutions.

To deliver this Community Safety Strategy, your participation in a consultation process will be critical.  Aibhlin McCrann of Communique International, together with her colleague Lorraine Ó Rahilly, are undertaking this work on behalf of Louth County Council and the Peace and Reconciliation partnership. They will be working closely with Louth CC, An Garda Síochána, the secretariat of the Peace Partnership and local businesses and communities and will be contacting you, and other people that you might recommend, over the next few weeks to arrange to discuss some of the challenges with regard to community safety.

It is part of an initiative being undertaken by the Louth County Council in partnership with the Garda Chief Superintendent for Louth, Pat McGee, together with the Louth Peace and Reconciliation partnership. Through this collaboration, a Community Safety Strategy for County Louth has been commissioned.  It is planned that this strategy will subsequently be implemented through the Joint Policing Structure.

Part of the research entails soliciting stakeholder views via this survey so please take a few minutes to give your feedback.

This feedback will help to inform the Community Safety Strategy, and its recommendations will enable everybody to work in partnership to ensure a good quality of life for all those who live, work and visit Co. Louth.
