Job Description

Job Title: Town Centre Commercial Manager Dundalk

Reports to:
A small steering group (13 max’m) from town council (4) and chamber (8) together with a Chair. Job is located at Chamber offices. A number of supporting teams will be formed eg to assist with Events development and Sponsorship, one of the 4 pillars of the job remit.

Job Outline:
The job-holders objectives will be directed

  • to promote Dundalk’s retail and amenity facilities in a coordinated manner, to ensure that the town regenerates as THE Regional retail, leisure and service centre for the North-East and continues to evolve and aid Dundalk’s expected growth as a Gateway
  • to deliver on the BIDS proposal objectives for Marketing and Promotions, Townwatch, Events Calendar and Policy Responses. Perhaps the most challenging will be to dimension gaps that exist, then research to reinforce diversity and attract options into Town Centre available premises.

The job has been created and funded under a BIDS proposal which will be a first such departure for an Irish town. There is provision for administrative support to TCCM

Job Brief key elements:

  • To create a live data base of available premises and to dimension by bench-marking, the gaps in retail and leisure, from which the TCCM will pursue options and strive to build diversity and sustainable provider strength into the main streets and centres.
  • To work with the Events team on their annual calendar, specifically to help forward planning and raise sponsorship. To maximize awareness and events’ value to the local economy is a strong challenge.
  • To develop the Townwatch scheme, which has early support from Garda, wherein town traders will evolve a platform to identify and record retail crime to enable Dundalk shops and streets minimize its impact.
  • To create a unified annual Marketing and Promotional campaign and to develop full understanding and generate buy-in to initiatives such as opening hours, sterling use, branding, shop fronts, skills/training etc
  • To coordinate policy responses from Town Centre interests to Town Hall executives, on eg Transportaion & Parking, Street Maintenance, Development

Special Features:
It will be VIP that all activities are conducted and accounted for in a totally transparent manner.

Applicants profile and rewards:
Candidates would ideally have a minimum of 5 years working in a Town Centre Manager environment and would bring experience from prior success and achievements to the outputs signaled above. Interpersonal skills are key to establishing Dundalk’s TCCM role, as will be first class literacy and numeracy to manage, report and engage in submissions envisaged. A 3rd level education level is likely, but not essential, but evidence of CPD in TCM will register strongly.

Rewards:
A 3-year non-pensionable contract, reviewed annually will be offered in the 1st instance, for which a Salary circa €60-72K is available. Renewal of the contract will depend on both performance and the appetite to re-apply for an extension to BIDS. Validated expenses for own-car travel and telephony will be reimbursed.
