Dundalk, right in the heart of Louth, the ‘Land of Legends’, is rich in heritage with many famous Irish legends and epics based in its landscape. There is a thriving arts scene here with everything from history, traditional arts and modern music and drama.
The award-winning County Museum has three floors of permanent exhibitions and a changing and extensive programme of temporary displays covering drama, music recitals, storytelling festivals, lecture and film.
An Táin Theatre has a wide and varied programme from music and dance performances to comedy acts, dance acts and children’s shows. The theatre’s Basement Gallery also mounts large-scale exhibitions with work from local, national and international artists as well as various art workshops throughout the year.
During the year there are loads of festivals of music and song, culture, literature, visual arts, film and drama. Dundalk is a town that is always alive with music with live bands playing in the many bars and pubs every weekend and the odd traditional music session. The Spirit Store promotes a wide range of events including drama, poetry readings, comedy nights and gigs and hosts well-known and up-and-coming Irish and international artists.
