Dundalk is the principal centre in the middle of the East Coast. Within a 30 mile radius there is a population of 428,000. A 50 mile radius brings in Ireland’s two main cities, Dublin and Belfast, increasing the catchment to in excess of 3 million. Dundalk is located on the M1/N1 National Primary Route equidistant between the two cities. It is also served by an excellent inter-city rail network. Dundalk is very advantageously positioned in relation to international airports, which are located to the north of Dublin and the south of Belfast.

The North-East regional office of the IDA (Industrial Development Agency) is based in Dundalk.  The IDA is the state agency tasked with attracting foreign investment to Ireland.  As well as assisting in identifying potential locations for businesses, the IDA may also provide financial incentives to multinationals.   The foreign owned companies with operations in the region include Xerox, Coca Cola, HeinzBecton Dickenson, Irish Life, National Pen, Daiwa Securities Global Asset Services, Diageo, and Satir. IDA’s Finnabair Business Park in Dundalk, adjacent to the Institute of Technology, provides building and Greenfield site solutions for overseas companies. IDA also has a developed land bank in Dundalk of circa 60 hectares (150 acres) capable of meeting the demands of large process related industry.
