Delegation Minister of Development meets Chamber of Commerce

Mr. Danny Kennedy Minister of Development at Stormont met a delegation of Chamber of Commerce members from Warrenpoint, Burren Rostrevor, Kilkeel, and Dundalk Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening past.

The minister who was accompanied by local MLA John McCallister had agreed to address the  Chamber representatives who are lobbying for funding in connection with the proposed Narrow Water Bridge linking Counties  Louth and Down. After viewing a power point presentation prepared by the Warrenpoint Chamber outlining the many benefits for both sides of the border in extra business and tourism Minister Kennedy advised the delegation that he would have to find in the region of £3,000000 which in view of recent economic cuts and the funding of a number of big road repairs in N. Ireland meant that he could not give that guarantee at this time. He did not rule out the funding but there was considerable pressure currently to complete the recently announced road improvement schemes. The Chambers went to great lengths to point out that the project had been a subject for discussion for some time however there appeared now to be a unique and real but limited timeframe to promote the project and see it come to fruition.
